Garden Gates – More Than Just An Obstacle

Garden gates are no longer mere obstacles that are hung on the driveway or pathway gateposts. They have become something that serves both a purpose and a need.

Garden gates have various uses but their primary function is to keep things either in or out of our gardens. Whether it’s to stop the dog from escaping and gallivanting all around the neighborhood or stopping that annoying neighbor from coming in, the importance of the garden gate cannot be overlooked.

Gates can form a very important aspect of landscaping the garden. Should the garden be of a large size, gates can be erected in order to distinguish different areas and themes within the garden. By using different materials for each gate, one is able to incorporate the gate into the design and layout of the garden.

For example, a small white, wooden gate may lead to a tranquil area that allows one to sit on a bench and listen to the world. Or perhaps a larger, green gate with a floral canopy is the entrance to another section of garden that is predominantly flowers in bloom. Each gate can be themed to suit the landscape theme for the area.

Garden gates are made from a number of different materials. The material you choose depends on the purpose of the gate. If it is to keep the dog in your yard, you wouldn’t go for a low wooden gate that can either be chewed through or jumped over. You would go for a sturdier, metal gate that you can guarantee will keep that pooch in the yard
