Discovering What Type Of Irrigation Pumps You Need
Irrigation Pumps Type: There are several different types of pumps to choose from depending on your need. Some pumps are powered by electricity while others are powered by fuel. The fuel powered pumps require more horsepower to operate. Pump types include displacement and centrifugal pumps.
What they do: For thick liquids, creating an accurate flow and extremely high pressure, the best pump to use is a displacement pump. These pumps move liquid by forcing air into a housing unit which in turn forces the liquid to come out. Oil wells and the type of pumps operated by hand are examples.
For irrigation or a sprinkler system, you will need what is known as a centrifugal pump. These pumps use centrifugal force and propellers to move the water. Some of these pumps are single stage and some have several stages. The number of stages tells you how many propellers are in the pump. The more propellers there are, the more pressure you have. Before their first use, these pumps have to be primed by adding water to the intake pipe and casing. Do not forget to prime the pump.
Types of Centrifugal Pumps: The most common use for this pump is transporting clean water or handling hazardous material. The type of pump used most often is the end-suction pump. This pump is attached to the drive shaft on the motor. The water comes in through an inlet on the side and exits through the top. Portable pumps almost always fall into this category. The pumps push water and are great for pumping water in areas where the water is higher than the pump. Since they do not suck up water, but rather push water, do not use them for areas where the water is lower than the pump.
