The term paving stones use to mean that a road or maybe a patio was constructed of stones that were cut on one side to create a smooth or at least flat surface. The stone were usually placed into sand as a leveling agent to make them flat, even and like a paved surface. Now the paving stone is not just a natural stone but can also be concrete or brick or other materials.

For centuries now paving stones have been used to create roads. Nowadays homeowners will often make use of the paving stone as a way to create patios, courtyards and walkways that are decorative and quickly installed as well as being durable.

The commercial builder today will often choose to use paving stones because they are not only very functional and attractive but have great versatility. Driveways are frequently made of brick paving stones or concrete paving stones. The stones that are manufactured or even the natural stones are better for using in light traffic areas.

Paving stones do come in an abundance of different materials but the more frequently used are the concrete, brick or natural stone. Natural deposits of limestone, marble, granite, slate, sandstone and other natural sources produce the natural stone that the pavers mine out of the natural deposits.
